In an inventory of species on the course, 22 dragonfly species were found, of which four are rare and one is legally protected (the large white-faced darter dragonfly).
That is a lot of dragonflies for a place that is not a nature reserve, as there are only 70 species in total in the Netherlands. It is also remarkable given that there are only two fairly small ponds on the golf course and several ditches that often dry out. Apparently, that is not a problem for the dragonflies.
Due to its protected status, as well as the presence of the great crested newt (also protected), a greenkeeping protocol has been established to preserve the pond's habitat, its banks and a buffer zone around it. The protocol has been approved by the Course Committee and registered in the greenkeeping system.
