Calcareous grassland protection

Luffenham Heath Golf Club

England

Written by: Richard Hall

The geography underlying Luffenham Heath Golf Course is diverse and so has created a diverse range of habitats. One of these habitats is described as Calcareous grassland and often supports a wide range of the UKs rarest flower species. Luffenham Heath Golf Club has recognised this and started a range of measures to protect the grassland from outside influences that may impact its natural diversity.

For example, we requested a visit from Natural England to perform a complete species list and provide recommendations on how to best preserve the site. Before the value of the site was understood it was used as an alternative car park, now it is roped off to minimise traffic.
