On April 2nd, we welcomed three beehives to our newly built apiary at Woburn. The idea began in 2024 when the wife of a Woburn member—and a local beekeeper—approached the club about starting a beekeeping project. After several meetings over the winter to plan the location and management of the apiary, it was exciting to see the bees arrive and settle into their new home.
Three staff members with an interest in beekeeping have been working closely with the beekeeper, learning hands-on about hive care and bee behaviour. The colonies have adapted well, and some have already been split—bringing the total number of hives to five. A small batch of honey has even been harvested, and the team is eager to sample it.
While the first year is about learning and establishing the hives, the long-term goal is to produce honey for use in and around the clubhouse, especially in the kitchens.
