Building bird boxes with local school children

Timrå Golfklubb

Sweden

Written by: Robert Martin

Thanks to the publicity surrounding Timrå Golfklubb's GEO certification, we were contacted by the local chapter of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). They had 8 bird boxes and wondered if they could put them up around the golf course. After a short meeting, we had put together a project where we would teach local schoolchildren how to build simple bird boxes to be put up around the golf course. The golf club will supply all the materials needed.

When the boxes are finished, the children will help the SSNC put them up around the course. This will give us a possibility to show the children the natural habitats present on the golf course as well as give the SSNC the chance to inform the children about how their bird boxes will help nature.
