Borrow pit transformation aids wildlife

Our borrow pit success was admittedly by pure luck. When we were extending our second course, The Struie, we needed extra material for sand capping. We found a good seam of sand next to what would become our new 14th green so we excavated knowing that the low lying Struie would fill with ground water and become a new natural water feature.

Now, rather than just an area of rough grass it is home to a diverse and thriving community of wildlife ranging from waterlilies, bulrushes, cattail, heron, moorhen, dragon fly, frogs, newts and insects. What was supposed to be just a water feature for the golf course turned out to be a valuable home for local wildlife.
