Birds at Minthis

Minthis Golf Club

Cyprus

Every day at Minthis we marvel at the wonders of nature! Our staff proudly share pictures of our feathered guests, who are being treated with great respect and watched from a safe distance. The Phylloscopus collybita though doesn’t mind the latest distance regulations and gets very close to Pro Shop Assistant Loucia!

Recently we had a Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus) visiting us. This beautiful bird of prey stopped by to say hi to our Golf Reservations Manager Koulla as he migrates from Europe, passing through Cyprus and onto Africa. Another beautiful bird coming close to the Clubhouse when migrating is the Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus), seen by Technician Michalis. And of course, the Eurasian Hoopoe (Upupa epops) is always close by and here posing for Pro Shop Assistant Andria.

However, their nests are well hidden in irrigation boxes on the golf course, where our greenkeepers leave the eggs and later the juniors undisturbed. The Little Grebe family, Tachybaptus ruficollis water bird, obviously prefers water and likes to raise the little ones around the island green. Only our talented photographer and greenkeeper Archie could ever see the Little Owl, Athene noctua, a beauty!
