In February 2024 we invited members and staff to aid us in making and donating bird boxes to encourage a thriving bird population upon the course. The uptake on this project was superb and many staff and golf members were willing and enthusiastic to help with the project. We ended up with over 60 bird boxes which were put up in various habitats around the course.

One of our goals with this project was to encourage small incest eating bird species, such as Great Tits (parus major), to provide a biological control to pest problems such as the Oak Processionary Moth (OPM). Overall the project has been a huge success, with the vast majority of boxes being inhabited throughout the nesting season.

Time will tell as to the efficacy of the management of OPM but we are hopeful of the results. It was a great way to engage staff and members in sustainability on the golf course. we look forward to doing more in the coming winter.
