Banners for backpacks

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

United States

The Banners to Backpacks program at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2019 created 500 backpacks for Monterey County students made from banners and signs used around the course. By gathering scrim – the material that wraps bleachers and scoreboards – and other materials backpacks are created for local students with employees filling the bags with school supplies and distributing them just in time for back-to-school season in August.

Some 10,000 yards of signage and scrim was gathered from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to create 1,000 backpacks and other items used as corporate give-aways. 500 of those backpacks were given to students supported by the Boys and Girls Club of in Monterey County, and an additional 500 went to support students in Sacramento, California.

Since the Banners to Backpacks program began in 2018, more than 220,000 sq. ft of material has been upcycled, creating more than 77,000 items which have been distributed in communities across four states.
