It is commonly accepted that British wildflowers are under threat and so to the pollinators who rely on them for food. At The Hertsmere we are committed to ensuring the beauty and colour these native flowers give our course are encouraged to flourish thus feeding the pollinators as this has a very real impact on the food we eat.

Following the appointment of the R&A’s Sustainable Agronomy service their advice was to rewild some of the out of play areas around the course. We saw an opportunity to convert an area of scrub into a valuable pollinator heaven. Our Green keeping team set about stripping a 75-meter long 15 meter high, bank located on the outside of the driving range and the signature short par 3 11th Hole.

The area was overseeded with Euroflor Project Pollin-8 Rainbow seed mix. We now have a surprisingly diverse array of wildflowers appearing, which have been attracting lots of pollinators, which can been seen in the image above.
