When the new maintenance facility was built at Royal Burgess, the installation of a sustainable water supply was an important consideration in the design process. Mains water supply is used for the domestic and operational needs in the maintenance compound and and feeds 2 storage tanks for course irrigation.
To reduce the amount of mains water used and costs, the stored irrigation water is supplemented by a rainwater harvesting system installed in the maintenance building roof. Greywater recycling is also utilised in the maintenace building, taking wastewater from the sinks and showers and pumping to a tank that provides water to flush the toilets.
Machinery washing is carried out using a recycled closed loop system. This passes washing wastewater through a 3-tank biological system and the treated effluent is reused in the washing process, reducing the demand for mains water.
