Aeration: An investment in the future of our course

Nokia River Golf

We regularly aerate our greens and fairways to secure long-term turf health and playing quality. Aeration means creating small holes in the soil to relieve compaction, improve oxygen flow, and enhance the movement of water and nutrients.

Heavy play, foot traffic, and maintenance equipment gradually compact the soil, limiting root growth. Aeration loosens the soil, helping roots grow deeper and stronger, which makes turf more resilient to heat, drought, and intensive use. The process also reduces thatch, the organic layer that can block water and create soft, inconsistent surfaces.

By combining aeration with sand topdressing, we improve firmness and achieve smoother ball roll. For golfers, freshly aerated greens may feel different for a short time, but the benefits are clear: denser turf, quicker recovery after rain, and consistently firmer, truer surfaces.

Aeration is not just maintenance—it is an investment in the future of our courses, ensuring that Nokia River Golf continues to deliver high-quality playing conditions season after season!
