30 new bird boxes sponsored

Luffenham Heath Golf Club

England

Following an Ecology report by Bob Taylor and Rowan Rumball of STRI in March 2019; the Club sought sponsorship from our members to initially locate 30 boxes around the Luffenham Heath course. The dawn chorus is still alive on many golf courses but without providing space and habitats for various species this may quickly change.

At Luffenham Heath we looked to provide habitats to encourage further birdlife and to repopulate certain areas and species. The particular boxes were to encourage bird species such as, for example, Swallow, Tits, Starling, Robin, Wren, Wagtail, Blackbird, Kestrel, Jay, Stock Dove, and Barn Owl. In time we will site more boxes as we move forward.

There were five levels of sponsorship available depending on the size of nesting box individual members wished to sponsor. The sponsorship levels reflected the initial cost of the box, the shared cost of visits by our ecology consultants, and the cost of regular care and maintenance.
